E2E and EPOC 5-a-side Football
The E2E students in Mablethorpe have been working with the Cancer charity EPOC (Early Presentation of Cancer) to help raise money for and awareness of the early signs and symptoms of many different cancers.
The two groups have been working together for awhile to set up a 5-a-side football tournament to focus specifically on the signs and symptoms of testicular and prostate cancer and this took place on Sunday 6th June at Station Sports Centre, Mablethorpe.
The day was a real success and with 6 teams entering meant that by the end of it all the teams were worn out.
The E2E team had a kit specially made with the logo ‘Check ‘em out’ and a picture of various sports balls on the back, so not only did they look good, they played excellently as well. They managed to win or draw all matches, some against teams who had been playing together for years, up until the quarter final where unfortunately they were beaten 1-0 by Internet Mariners A who went on to win the tournament.
At the end of the day all players were presented with a sports bag containing information on the signs and symptoms of testicular and prostate cancer and the winning team received a football signed by Grimsby Town players.
As well as everyone enjoying themselves, £266 was raised for the Cancer charity Macmillan so a big thanks to all the volunteers and players who took part.
