New Start Mentoring

The New Start project trains volunteers to work with young people (13-24 years) on a one-to-one basis for an agreed period of time. The mentor meets up with the young person once or twice a week and they work together setting goals, building confidence, raising aspiration, improving basic skills, solving problems and so on.Young people who are experiencing some difficulty in achieving their potential at school or college are referred to the project by their tutor, Connexions advisor, social worker or other support worker. Mentors generally must be at least 18 years old and full accredited training is given.

The New Start Programme has achieved the Approved Provider Standard from the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation.
